More than 4000 volunteers, crew and performers are involved in the parade. This year marks the 83rd anniversary of the parade. It is the largest annual community event in Auckland. The Santa Parade was introduced by Farmers founder, Robert Laidlaw in 1934 – a gift of fantasy and fanfare for the children of the city.
The new creatures in 2016 include three Angry Birds helium inflatables from Canada, Disneys Mickey and Minnie inflatables, an Olympics float, LEGO character Clay from Nexo Knights, Austin Powers and a Cinderella float.
The parade began with a group of drummers, followed by a Farmers float which let off large colourful streamers as it turned on to Cook St.
Santa’s after party is on again in Aotea Square started at 2:30 pm and featured a continuous stage show as well as rides, celebrities, face painting and a spectacular LEGO Christmas Tree. And of course Santa was there too.
So it was another great parade and it brought such a delight to so many people.
