Avatar - is epic science fiction film. The movie was directed, written, produced, and co-edited by James Cameron. It was released in 2009.
Avatar became the first film to gross more than $2 billion, the best-selling film of 2010 in the United States. Avatar was nominated for nine Academy Awards and won three.
Cameron signed with 20th Century Fox to produce few sequels, making Avatar 2 the first of a planned release.
Shooting of Avatar 2 was set to begin this summer following the completion of scripts for Avatar 3, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5.
James Cameron has now revealed that the planned release date for the film is now being pushed back once again because they're planning on filming several sequels at once.
Although originally Avatar 2 being scheduled for Christmas 2018, James Cameron said that it is not happening:
“We’re not making Avatar 2 - we’re making Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5. It’s an epic undertaking. It’s not unlike building the Three Gorges dam.”
It took 4.5 years to make the first Avatar, which was released in 2009. Thus it is clear that the filming of four movies would take some time.
The release of the first sequel is expected to be after December 2018, the second to follow in December 2020, and the third and fourth to follow in 2022 and 2023.
Avatar 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau through their Lightstorm Entertainment.
