Olympiyskiy Arena, MOSCOW, RUSSIA - JULY 21, 2018.
Now Oleksandr Usyk, a former Olympic Champion, holds all major titles after only 15 professional fights UKRAINIAN boxer beat Russian Murat Gassiev by unanimous decision on Sunday morning, 21 July in Moscow.
Even facing a hostile crowd in Moscow, Usyk fully controlled the fight with his jab to add Gassiev’s WBA and IBF titles to his own WBC and WBO belts.
Just after 15 fights he has become the first fighter in boxing history to hold all WBC, WBA, WBO, IBF and Ring Magazine world cruiserweight world titles.
Gassiev was able to make some heavy body shots when he got inside Usyk’s reach, but started to tire after 7 rounds. Thus the Ukrainian boxer clearly dominated at the end of the fight.
It was Usyk’s third fight in 10 months as part of the World Boxing Super Series, in which he also beat German Marco Huck and WBC champion Mairis Briedis.
Gassiev was unbeaten before that, but his record dropped now to 26-1 with one no contest. Usyk didn’t lose a single round against his Russian opponent.
His most aggressive round was the final round, where he landed 47 strikes and threw 117 — despite already being unable to lose the fight on the judges’ scorecards heading into the final round.
His performance in this fight and previous wins makes Oleksandr Usyk as a future superstar, according to many boxing specialists.
